, 2018. Dynamic Time Division Duplex (TDD) has been introduced as a solution to deal with the uplink and downlink traffic asymmetry, mainly observed for dense heterogeneous network deployments. However, the use of this feature requires new interference mitigation schemes capable to handle two additional types of interferences between cells in opposite transmission cycle: downlink to uplink and uplink to downlink interferences. Among them, Cell clustering has been proposed as an efficient solution to minimize inter-cell interferences in opposite transmission directions and somehow responds to the requirements of enhanced Interference Mitigation and Traffic Adaptation (eIMTA) problem. This work is devoted to provide a new analytical approach to model inter-cell interferences and quantify performances of Dynamic TDD system in terms of SINR (Signal to Interferences plus Noise Ratio) distribution. Analytical system performance investigation concerns two scenarios: i) basic Dynamic TDD without any other feature and ii) Dynamic TDD with interference mitigation schemes.

, 2018. A major practical limitation of the Maddah-Ali-Niesen coded caching techniques is their high subpacketization level. For the simple network with a single server and multiple users, Yan et al. proposed an alternative scheme with the so-called placement delivery arrays (PDA). Such a scheme requires slightly higher transmission rates but significantly reduces the subpack-etization level. In this paper, we extend the PDA framework and propose three low-subpacketization schemes for combination networks, i.e., networks with a single server, multiple relays, and multiple cache-aided users that are connected to subsets of relays. One of the schemes achieves the cutset lower bound on the link rate when the cache memories are sufficiently large. Our other two schemes apply only to resolvable combination networks. For these networks and for a wide range of cache sizes, the new schemes perform closely to the coded caching schemes that directly apply Maddah-Ali-Niesen scheme while having significantly reduced subpacketization levels. , 2018. Several query evaluation tasks can be done via knowledge compilation: the query result is compiled as a lineage circuit from which the answer can be determined. For such tasks, it is important to leverage some width parameters of the circuit, such as bounded treewidth or pathwidth, to convert the circuit to structured classes, e.g., deterministic structured NNFs (d-SDNNFs) or OBDDs. In this work, we show how to connect the width of circuits to the size of their structured representation, through upper and lower bounds. For the upper bound, we show how bounded-treewidth circuits can be converted to a d-SDNNF, in time linear in the circuit size. Our bound, unlike existing results, is constructive and only singly exponential in the treewidth. We show a related lower bound on monotone DNF or CNF formulas, assuming a constant bound on the arity (size of clauses) and degree (number of occurrences of each variable). Specifically, any d-SDNNF (resp., SDNNF) for such a DNF (resp., CNF) must be of exponential size in its treewidth; and the same holds for pathwidth when compiling to OBDDs. Our lower bounds, in contrast with most previous work, apply to any formula of this class, not just a well-chosen family. Hence, for our language of DNF and CNF, pathwidth and treewidth respectively characterize the efficiency of compiling to OBDDs and (d-)SDNNFs, that is, compilation is singly exponential in the width parameter. We conclude by applying our lower bound results to the task of query evaluation. (10.4230/LIPIcs.ICDT.2018.6)

  • Impact of Semantic Aids on Command Memorization for On-Body Interaction and Directional Gestures

, 2018. Previous studies have shown that spatial memory and semantic aids can help users learn and remember gestural commands. Using the body as a support to combine both dimensions has therefore been proposed, but no formal evaluations have yet been reported. In this paper, we compare, with or without semantic aids, a new on-body interaction technique (BodyLoci) to mid-air Marking menus in a virtual reality context. We consider three levels of semantic aids: no aid, story-making, and story-making with background images. Our results show important improvement when story-making is used, especially for Marking menus (28.5% better retention). Both techniques performed similarly without semantic aids, but Marking menus outperformed BodyLoci when using them (17.3% better retention). While our study does not show a benefit in using body support, it suggests that inducing users to leverage simple learning techniques, such as story-making, can substantially improve recall, and thus make it easier to master gestural techniques. We also analyze the strategies used by the participants for creating mnemonics to provide guidelines for future work. (10.1145/3206505.3206524)
